Retin-A for Stretch Marks

Reverse Your Age and Have Better Skin

Retin-A is genericly known as Tretinoin or retoinic acid. It is the acid form of vitamin A and so also known as all-trans retinoic acid. Commonly used for the image treatment of acne, and sun damaged skin, it was said to works best with the combination of alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) preparations.

As a result, long term usage such as for ten years could reverse aging and continue improving the skin’s appearances.

“A study in the Archives of Dermatology, May 1996, shows that 0.1% tretinoin significantly improves the appearance of early stretch marks. Tretinoin works best on stretch marks that are new or enlarging.” [source]

Retin-A were believed to be able to reduce skin’s inflammation and improve its texture. It helps in remodeling the collagen and elastin in our skin therefore, minimizing the appearance of stretch marks.

imageFaith Harper in her blog mentioned that the application of Retin-A works at its best on a year old or younger stretch marks which were still red in color. It helps to speed up the fading process by constricting the blood vessels in the area, hence making the marks less red. This, indirectly shrinks the stretch marks. However, it is good to be reminded that Retin-A will not be able to diminish all of your stretch marks. It could only makes them less noticeable and fade faster, so that your stretch marks would naturally fade with time.

As a word of caution, it may also be necessary to discontinue Retin-A for a specific time period before taking any kind of medical procedures. Always check your doctors about this matter in order to avoid other complications.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not consider this kind of treatment for their stretch marks as it has be proven unsafe to an unborn baby, and may become absorbed in to a nursing baby’s milk.
