Stretch Marks in Teenagers
Stretch marks in teenagers were common, as part and parcel of growing up, especially rapidly at this time of their lives. Although due to the increased level of the hormone estrogen, girls tend to have more of it, some boys might also being affected especially if they are weight lifter or just simply gaining g more weight during that time of their life.
Teenagers has a higher higher levels of ahormones circulating through the bloodstream and this is thought to help cause stretch marks during puberty times. Some specific hormones such as glucocorticoids affects the dermis (the middle layer of the skin) by preventing fibroblasts from forming collagen and other fibers necessary to keep growing skin taut and supple. Therefore, if the skin were lack of its supportive material which leads to dermal tearing, such tear would create a scar which were called as stretch marks.

Boys, who are into body building may get stretch marks during their teenage years as well. However, there have also been a suggestion that some medication such as oral steroids as well as low potency topical steroid creams and ointments may also cause stretch marks, upon excessive use.
A rapid weight gain due to poor nutritional habits can also result in stretch marks in teenagers. Therefore, it is important for a teenager to take good care of his/her diet in order to maintain a healthy and good looking skin during their adult years.
Although stretch marks in teenager could not be fully eliminated, as treatment such as laser surgery and microdermabrasion were not advisable, one may at least lessen its appearance by maintaining a healthy weight, healthy diet and having regular exercises. Another option is to hide these stretch marks creatively. Teenagers should enjoy their teen years and not to worry much about these ‘growing up lines’ as stretch marks in teenager would usually fade in time.
